Yin and Yin 2
Work continues. Under painting complete except for what I end up doing with the area outside the circle(I have no idea yet). Detail work being done on the left hand/lower side. I'm working toward an old "map" or globe look to the earth as opposed to a realistic photographic NASA shot.

Drawin N Cryin
Actually, we listened to some Drivin N Cryin while Erin posed for Monday night life drawing class. I liked my angle on the seated pose where she's sort of balled up in the chair. This particular drawing started with the head and hair.15 minutes...conte and pastel. I guess it does look a little like she's "cryin"?? The gesture drawing started with Erin turning and asking, "What pose should I do next" ...or something like that...she was stretching her arms... I told her to hold it just like that! It has nice lines with her weight on one leg and I liked the challenge of roughing in the unusual position of the arms and hands in the 2 minutes allotted. I photographed this pose with the thought that I may do a painting of it later on. Conte on newsprint.
Drawing- $225

Double Take
I recently had someone interested in a drawing that had already sold. I don't repeat drawings for situations like that but I do like to do new versions with slight changes. I posed the same model in a similar pose but changed the angle and how the head and hands were placed. I like the results...conte and pastel...about 20 minutes. Compare to the drawing of Chelsea posted March 3, 2009. (Monday Night Life Drawing).

Little Hands
Earlier I wrote that I might be doing a commissioned painting or drawing of a child's hands and feet. Here are rough thumbnails that I will show the client for approval. I like to give them 2-4 options. The hands are an integral part of a portrait but are so often overlooked or avoided. I really like the idea here of a study of just the hands...great keepsake of a time in your child's life that really flies by. These are pencil on parchment...approx 3-4" square each.

Open Book, Chapter 2
Wake up Maggie...
We didn't play any Rod Stewart classics at drawing class tonight but should have...with a model named Maggie it should have been a no brainer. Instead we played Air Supply and Flatt and Scruggs...nice combo. 15 minute conte drawing with nice lines...a little pastel thrown in. I've been gone on vacation for a week and could tell that I haven't drawn in a while but I liked how this drawing turned out.
Maggie- $225.

Open Book
Sleeping girl with book. Nice moody piece in the early stages. Mostly underpainting...thinned down oil wash indicating general color and value. Some second level detail started in flesh tone areas. I plan to keep most of the painting subdued in tone and value with the area near the book in a stronger light. Model- Rebecca. 24X30.

Buckhead Gallery Walk
A few shots from the Buckhead Gallery Walk. I'm showing at DE Fine Art Gallery. I thought the crowd was pretty good considering so many are gone for the weekend already. I was thrilled with some Newnan folks coming out. Two of my models came...made my night...shown are Chelsea with the ballerina paintings she posed for. Chelsea has been the subject of a number of paintings...6,7,8?...including "Aura" which sold a few months back. Also shown is Rebecca with "Box of Light". Rebecca has posed for at least 5 or 6 paintings including "The Lonely Road". They have both been regular models for the Monday Night drawing class as well. I am honored to be hanging in the same gallery with some of the artists that DE represents. If you are in the Buckhead area, it's time well spent to stop by.
