80's Night?

The always fabulous Erin posed for tonight's class in a purple top with black pants and an animal print belt...cool look. The sitting pose was a 10 minute conte and pastel. Nice lines to the pose...the right arm and hand have a nice expressive quality. The standing pose is a 2 minute gesture drawing that captured a nice twisting pose. Drawn with a 9B graphite stick.

Arabian night

Model Maggie, posed in an Arabian dance costume Monday night. This pose had great lines from both sides. 15 minutes conte and pastel. This one could become a painting one day. The light, which really does not come across in the sketch, was really outstanding. I have a reference photo that captured it good enough to work from.

More progess

I've decided to darken the background by several values. I felt it was distracting from the figure and the fish. I'm liking it better this way. I've started adding some detail to one of the "Rock Beauty" fishies in order to see how it looks against the background.

Mermaid progress

The background is starting to take shape. The dress detail is moving on down to the torso area. The fish are just blocked in at this point and will be the last step and probably the most time consuming.

Mermaid's Garden

Early stages of a new painting. Model is Katie T. Her beautiful dress reminded me of a mermaid so I decided to paint her in a room with tropical fish swimming about. I'll show progress on this one as I go so check back. The dress currently shows three stages of development....the lower area is a washy underpainting, the torso area is nearing full form and contrast and the upper area shows the beginnings of the beadwork detail. 30X40

Monday Night Life Drawing

It was an all Japanese night, except for the music. Ashley modeled for the class in a traditional Japanese kimono that she got on her recent trip to the land of the rising sun. This 15 minute sketch in conte and pastel was my favorite. We listened to Fleetwood Mac and Chopin.

Show

A couple of pictures from the show at Dogwood Gallery in Tyrone, GA. Opening night turnout was very good....nice crowd. The walk-thru/talk went well and many folks told me they enjoyed it. I sold a few, which is always good, saw a lot of friends and met some new ones. The show runs until April 18th...after that, the studio will be buried in paintings.
