Ballerina Emily

New model, Emily M, posed tonight and did an exceptional job. Long lines, looks like a dancer. This pose reminded me a little of Degas' bronze of the young dancer...nice position on the feet and legs. 15 minutes, conte and pastel.

Monday Night Amy

Talented and beautiful dancer, Amy, posed for the class Monday night. Sometimes my favorite drawing of the night is a gesture drawing. I've posted a blog earlier about the importance of gesture drawings and can't emphasize that enough. This one is on newsprint, drawn with a chunk of lead...9B...very soft...gives a nice, smooth, dark line. Approx 21" tall....2 minutes.

Bucket of Tutus 2

Work continues on this painting. I've added a mirror on the wall....may add figures in the mirror later...not sure. Details in feet and hands continue.

Bucket of Tutus

...and everybody said "Awwwwwwe!! New painting underway of little dancers playing in a large bucket of tutus...they were in their own little world. Reference photos taken in the Newnan School of Dance's new space in downtown Newnan...an old loft space. Nice light. I like how the entire space is sort of bland, colorless and plain except for the burst of color from the girls. Oil, 24X30.

Thoroughly Modern Monday Night Life Drawing

The amazing Laura Bradley in full flapper regalia and awesome time period music set the stage for a fun night at drawing class. Laura polished off a night of great poses by doing the Charleston and singing "Gimme Gimme" a cappela! Top that! I don't think you can! Drawing shown is 15 minutes conte and pastel.

The Mermaid's Garden

The painting of Katie T as a pseudo-mermaid is finished. I ended up treating the floor as a dark reflective wood and really like the way it turned out. The fish with all their detail took longer than I thought but add a nice element to the scene. 30X40
