New painting underway of model Chelsea. Large, 30X40. Working off of the blue with cool tones in the flesh and shadows. I hope to have this one in the March show.

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering why you choose to paint on unstretched canvas?
I assume that later you stretch them for your shows for framing-is that difficult?
I've always painted on unstretched canvas for several reasons. Mainly, I don't like the "bounce" you get when painting on stretched...I prefer a solid feeling surface. Also, you can better crop the painting after it's done instead of painting to a set size and format. Shipping paintings and taking them in to be scanned is also easier when they are unstretched. I paint fairly thin so stretching them afterwards has never been a problem. For large works...larger than 40", I make my own stretcher bars.
