Frodo's Dead...That's What I Said
New model, Ashleigh did a wonderful job for us tonight...great poses to draw...fun costume. Sort of a Hobbit/Tavern Wench cross. Elf ears were a nice touch! For some unknown reason we listened to Curtis Mayfield...it just seemed like the right thing to do. Drawing shown is a 15 minute, conte and pastel.

Winter
In honor of the winter Olympics, I've painted an allegorical work called "Winter". Actually, I started this painting last year as a fairly normal, realistic, true color painting of dancer Chelsea S. As with other works that I'm not 100% happy with, I tacked it up in the studio to "look at" for a while. Over time, I gradually kept painting everything but the hands and the rose back to a cool, lower key, blue. It took it's own direction...I followed. It represents something I'm really looking forward to...winter's transition into spring. Shown 85% complete here. 24x30. Click on the image for a better look.

Valentines Day Art
Nothing says "I Love You" like a magnificent Sunbrella. This is an illustration from way back...mid to late 80's(??) that uses the look of a romance novel to sell outdoor umbrellas. A "novel" idea I say...regardless, it was a fun assignment and appropriate for Valentine's Day. Hope everyone has a good one!

Ringling
39 and Holding
My friend, photographer Donna Rosser, posted a photo of me
at the drawing class talking about something extremely
intellectual I'm sure. Donna is posting a photo a day for
a year. I'm number 39 which just so happens to be my age...
ahem...

The Sitting Corner
I've been within an hour of finishing this painting since early December. It's been tacked to a board waiting for me to get a small break from commissions. Shown is a detail, still unfinished but close. I'll post a final later when it's stretched. Model is Katie T in a dress overflowing with pleats. Intimidating color and details but it's been fun to paint...we should always challenge ourselves. 24X36.
