RED

.....................I have an upcoming show at Dogwood Gallery in Tyrone, GA. Opening is December 6, 6:30pm. The show, RED, will consist of large works and small, old works and new, mostly new, and works with a wide range of prices. $100 up to $4200. Drawings and paintings alike will feature the color red as the main focus or an essential accent. While planning this show and a theme, I realized that I tend to use red a good bit, either as a major statement or as a way to bring your attention to something in the painting. The painting shown, "Cardinal, Red" is one of the smaller works, just 8"x8". Other small works include still life and landscapes. A series of 9 apples, each an 8"x8" will be available either as a group or individually. The show will include several major works that have been done specifically for this show.

SC Bound

This painting has been accepted into the Artfields inaugaral show in Lake City, SC. The show and art festival runs April 19-28. See their site for information about all that's going on. http://www.artfieldssc.org/about/lake-city/ There will be a "People's Choice" award so please, if you're able, go see the show and vote for someone's work that you enjoy. This painting, of dancer Chelsea S, is a favorite of mine and I'm proud to have been accepted. Gotta get it ready for shipping!

Black Creek Show

The show in Hartsville opened Thursday night to a big crowd. Many old friends and family were there as well as art enthusiasts from the area. The Black Creek Arts group did a great job setting up the art and providing food and drink. I was proud to be in the show with my grandmother, aunt, parents, brothers, children, nephews, and niece! The show will be up through most of April if you're in the area. Hartsville, SC.

Paintings Delivered

All the work for the upcoming Pate family show has been delivered. Just got back from a trip to Hartsville SC to drop off mine. Nice gallery space and some exceptional work there. 12 family members will be showing paintings, drawings, photographs, architecture, animation, stained glass and jewelry. God's Eyes

I don't know Josiane and her English is not perfect but her expression of praise for the OPA Regional show in Wilmington, NC (opening this Friday) is as beautiful as you'll see. She was speaking specifically about the online pictures of the show. I particularly love, "They all get God eyes inside they art". Josiane really has me eager to see this show...hope some of you can make it!

From all i have seen in Wilmington and New-York, and for many years , this is the most amazing paintings i ever seen in 10 years. Some of them reminded me of Jan Vermeer.
I thought i was a good painter compare to what I see in exhibition some times. I guess i was not looking at the right place. Mayfaire exhibition will make you wonder: ” is it a photo or a painting”. Then as you’ll get closer to the canvas…. oh my gosh…. this is oil painting !…
As a painter, I was in admiration. There are not all famous artists…. Art lover this is your chance to own the next generation of Vermeer, Degas or maybe Rembrandt….
They all get God eyes inside they art.

NC Bound

I posted this painting of dancer Robin V before but I found out this week that it was juried into the Oil Painters of America 2010 Regional Exhibition in Wilmington, NC. The show opens October 15 and runs through November 13. Based on names I saw on the acceptance list, this should be a very good show. The show will be at Walls Fine Art Gallery in Wilmington.

The Agony of Defeat

Both of these paintings were rejected from the Oil Painters of America national show, 2010....I guess everybody couldn't get in?? 2500+ entries....200 or so selected. I'll keep trying...still pouting for now. I'm a new member so this was my first attempt. I understand they also have regional shows. I advise young artists all the time not to take things like this personally. Getting in a show or winning a prize usually comes down to a decision made by one person on one day...another day, another person and who knows, you might take home the blue ribbon. What are you going to do with a bunch of blue ribbons anyway? Well, it does feel good to win one every once in a while:)
Shown: The Lonely Road 24x36 and Open Book 24x30. Both are for sale...a sale would ease that sting a bit...

Florida Bound

"Dove" is flying to Punta Gorda, FL in a few weeks to the 7th Biennial National Exhibition of art..actually, it's going in a truck but it'll be in the show Feb 12 - March 12. Don't know if I'll get down there for the opening but I'm keeping it on my wish list. 138 works chosen from 720 entries.

Show

A couple of pictures from the show at Dogwood Gallery in Tyrone, GA. Opening night turnout was very good....nice crowd. The walk-thru/talk went well and many folks told me they enjoyed it. I sold a few, which is always good, saw a lot of friends and met some new ones. The show runs until April 18th...after that, the studio will be buried in paintings.

My good friend David Boyd Jr took these pics during the walk-thru at last night's show. The crowd was very good...maybe a little large for the walk thru but hey, that's what you hope for. Greg and Jennifer with Dogwood Gallery did an amazing job of putting the show together!! Folks seemed to enjoy the talk and verbal description of the works.
