Merry Christmas

Found this tin for sale online recently. I painted the toys and tree for Andes Candies for their 2000 Christmas tin. Two sides shown. I wanted a Haddon Sundblom feel. Every once in a while an old illustration assignment pops up on Ebay...always fun to see.

Cows Jumping Over Moons

Something a little different. I found this antique clock cabinet, missing it's clock, and did this oil on panel of a cow jumping over the moon to put in it. I think it'd look great in a nursery or child's room. Ready to hang on the wall or set on a mantle or dresser. Unique, one-of-a-kind piece priced at $385. Dimensions: approx 21"x14"x4"(shipping extra)

New Scale

Depending on where you look, Kong was somewhere between 25' to 150' tall. 25-50 seems to be the most common. I like the idea of a 20-25 foot beast. That's still pretty gigantic but maybe a little more believable?? Here's a photoshopped version of the first sketch with a larger Kong.

Frazetta's Kong

One of my early influences and a continual source of inspiration, Frank Frazetta was deeply influenced by the original King Kong movie. If you've seen the movie, you can see it in his paintings. This is one of several of his versions of the story in paint. I love the atmosphere in this and my go for something similar in my final version.

Valentines Day Art

Nothing says "I Love You" like a magnificent Sunbrella. This is an illustration from way back...mid to late 80's(??) that uses the look of a romance novel to sell outdoor umbrellas. A "novel" idea I say...regardless, it was a fun assignment and appropriate for Valentine's Day. Hope everyone has a good one!

Kaiser originals

A fellow Ringling student recently said he'd had George Kaiser for two years but never saw any of his work. When I was at Ringling, I rented a room from a guy out near the airport. These were hanging in his living room. I talked him into trading them to me for a couple of landscapes that I did. They are signed "George Kaiser 1947" and tell the story of a shipwreck....one guy doesn't survive. The other one sets off into the jungle. Pretty cool.

Mary

Not exactly my "thang" but I've done a children's book illustration for a friend. The painting of "Mary" (based on my daughter) will accompany several sketches showing other illustration ideas and my friends manuscript. My son, Taylor, helped with creating the look of the character. My friend will attempt to find a publisher...that's the hurdle. My experiences in children's book illustration are limited but I know that often, if a publisher likes a manuscript, they like to get their own illustrator. Has anyone had any experience in this area...know any contacts??
