Firefly

The model tonight, Melinda S, was in a dance costume that was used as a firefly in the ballet Hansel and Gretel. I thought it looked kind of like a jester..very cool, very colorful. I've simplified it for the time restrictions of the class. This drawing was about 12-15 minutes. Conte and pastel.

Henbit Road

Another painting of a place that I find compelling...Byrdtown, SC. The title refers to the purple "weed" that grows in fields in this area certain times of the year. This painting is an 11x14 oil on panel and is a more involved painting from an earlier 8x8 study.

Cumberland Morning

Scene from Cumberland Island, GA. Beautiful place...wonderful light. This is an 11x14 oil on panel.

Fluff

Painting of dancer Chelsea S "fluffing" her tutu. 24x30 on panel. I've done two paintings on panel at this large size and like the results. I'm going to try to get a smoother finish in the gesso coat next time.

Gretel Girl

A second painting of Emily T as Gretel. This one is larger, 24x30 and on my own, semi-homemade panel. Masonite hardboard, two coats of gesso and a wash under painting. I found it much more porous than the factory made panels but I liked it nonetheless. The wash and oils dried faster. Shown is a detail. Still wet...May add a few more final touches as I look at it.
